Las Cruces Pride Parade History: How LGBTQ+ Pride Has Grown in Doña Ana County (2023–2025)
June is Pride Month and here in Las Cruces, New Mexico, it means something special. Over the
past three years, our community has gone from hosting its very first Pride Parade to building
one of the most vibrant LGBTQ+ celebrations in Southern New Mexico. At Families & Youth
Innovations Plus (FYI+), we’ve been proud to help make it happen.
Whether you’re a longtime community member or new to Doña Ana County, here’s a look back
at how Las Cruces Pride has grown and what’s coming next.

2023: The First-Ever Las Cruces Pride Parade — “United in Diversity”
In October 2023, Las Cruces made history with its very first Las Cruces Pride Parade, themed “United in Diversity.” The parade brought together LGBTQ+ community members, allies, families, and organizations from across Doña Ana County and the broader borderland region. Colorful floats, live performances, and an outpouring of community support filled the streets — marking a powerful turning point for LGBTQ+ visibility in Southern New Mexico.
The event was organized through a collaboration between FYI+, Southern New Mexico Pride, and PFLAG Las Cruces, with volunteers and participants far exceeding expectations. Award winners included Deming Pride, NMSU LGBT Programs, and Femme Frontera — a sign of just how broad and intersectional our community’s Pride really is. For many, it was the first time they had seen their community celebrate openly in this way. For Las Cruces as a whole, it was the beginning of something lasting.

2024: “WE ARE HERE” — Celebrating LGBTQ+ Visibility in Las Cruces
Building on the momentum of the first parade, the 2024 Las Cruces Pride theme declared: “WE
ARE HERE.”
This campaign spotlighted the LGBTQ+ community’s real, everyday presence in Las Cruces — in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and families. What made it especially meaningful was its intergenerational and intersectional focus, featuring three individuals from different generations, each portrayed with confidence and authenticity.
The message was clear: queer identity is one part of a whole, complex, beautiful person — and the LGBTQ+ community in Southern New Mexico is not going anywhere. WE ARE HERE. Seen. Present. Celebrated — right here in Doña Ana County.

2025: “Rooted in Resilience” LGBTQ+ Pride Meets the Southwest Desert
In 2025, Las Cruces Pride chose a theme that was unmistakably local: “Rooted in Resilience.” Inspired by the Chihuahuan Desert landscape of Southwest New Mexico, this theme drew a parallel between the desert ecosystem and the LGBTQ+ community, both resilient, both blooming in environments that underestimate them. The visual centerpiece was a blooming cactus in the colors of the Pride Flag, a symbol of queer joy taking root right here in the borderland. This theme resonated deeply in Doña Ana County, where the queer community,
particularly people of color and those in rural and border communities, continue to show up with
strength, creativity, and pride.
What’s This Year’s Pride Theme? The 2026 Las Cruces Pride theme is coming soon! Stay connected with FYI+ on Facebook and Instagram for the announcement, and watch this page for updates. And, get ready for the 2026
