Families & Youth Innovations Plus (FYI+) is the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) in New Mexico and it exemplifies the “I” (Innovation) in our Company’s vision for the community. This pivot to becoming a CCBHC is made for the behavioral health needs and overall well-being of our participants, along with their families, friends and neighbors.
Everyone’s life is unique and the services we seek to improve our mental health should share the same uniqueness. This is where our team comes into play. We bridge the gap of uninsured families and individuals, play an active role in mental health mediation and crisis, and our many programs are connected for our participants to move freely when getting the assistance they need.
This blog is dedicated to talk about (1) the expansion of FYI+, (2) addressing how we can uniquely assist with our community’s needs, (3) what we offer as a CCBHC, and (4) the benefits associated with being a CCBHC. Scroll to the bottom of the article to learn about our services.
How Has FYI+ Expanded to Become a CCBHC?
FYI+ is New Mexico’s first-ever, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC)!
Families & Youth Innovations Plus (FYI+) has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the children, youth, and families in the community since 1977, when the agency began operations as Children in Need of Supervision (CHINS). The agency was renamed Families & Youth, Inc. in 1987, and rebranded as FYI+ in 2021. FYI+’s mission of promoting a safer and healthier community by focusing on children and families has never wavered.
In 2022, FYI+ was a proud recipient of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). With this grant, FYI+ has become home to New Mexico’s first CCBHC and joins more than 500 CCBHCs operating in 46 states, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C. and Guam.
As a CCBHC, FYI+ will continue its legacy of staying innovative in serving the community and will take its continuum of care to the next level by serving participants across the lifespan. We have long been known for our commitment to youth and families, and as a CCBHC, we have expanded our therapy and supportive services to include adults without children, couples, individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, veterans, and others.

Who Can Get Treatment at a CCBHC?
Anyone who needs mental health and addiction care can access services at a CCBHC!
FYI+ offers comprehensive, coordinated behavioral healthcare for any person seeking mental health and/or substance use care, regardless of their age, where they live, or their ability to pay. This is the focus of CCBHCs, and FYI+ is proud to be providing person- and family-centered services, including crisis care. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals who are experiencing:
- serious mental illness (SMI)
- long-term chronic addiction
- any mental health and/or substance use condition
One of the main purposes of a CCBHC is to provide access to treatment for all, including those who are:
- uninsured and insured (Medicaid & Commercial insurance)
- underserved (Black, Indigenous, people of color (BIPOC); LGBTQ+; disabled)
- low-income
- experiencing homelessness
- active-duty military or veterans
FYI+ has always been focused on serving marginalized populations and those who have been underserved in the community. As a CCBHC, we continue that commitment by ensuring all individuals can receive care, regardless of their ability to pay and regardless of their insurance coverage. FYI+ offers a sliding fee discount to eligible participants based on income and family size. The sliding fee scale program is patient-centered, improves access to care, and assures that no patient will be denied behavioral health services due to an inability to pay.
What Does FYI+ Offer as a CCBHC?

FYI+ offers trauma-informed care for children, youth, adults, and families who are experiencing mental health and/or substance use-related conditions, including 24/7 access to crisis care. In addition, we coordinate care for individuals experiencing complex medical conditions with and without co-occurring behavioral health concerns.
To better understand what FYI+ offers as a CCBHC, think of the agency’s menu of services as a buffet. Every individual is going to need help for different reasons, but everyone can come to FYI+ to have their varying needs addressed. So, just like a buffet, some people may want roast beef, and some people want none because they need more salad and vegetables. And, we all may want dessert, but some of us need to have the no-sugar, diabetic-friendly pudding.
As a CCBHC, FYI+ offers services that follow best practices in the behavioral health field, in order to meet people where they are and to support them along their journey to wellness and recovery, including:
- Crisis Services for Behavioral Health
- Treatment Planning
- Screening, Assessment, Diagnosis & Risk Assessment
- Outpatient Mental Health & Substance User Services
- Targeted Case Management
- Outpatient Primary Care Screening and Monitoring
- Community-Based Mental Health Care for Veterans
- Peer, Family Support & Counselor Services
- Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services
What are the Benefits of a CCBHC?
The overall benefit of a CCBHC is ensuring everyone has access to and receives the care they need!
Those seeking care will have increased access to high-quality, mental health and substance use care, including crisis services. And, like the buffet of services we mentioned earlier, anyone will be able to receive a range of evidence-based, best-practice treatment options to address their individual, behavioral health and physical health needs.
Choosing to receive care through a CCBHC means individuals can:
- get into treatment easier, helping improve health & well-being
- avoid getting hospitalized when they don’t need hospital care
- receive crisis services 24/7
- have access to care no matter their ability to pay
- receive integrated addiction and mental health services, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
- have timely access to high-quality care
- receive care coordination support within social services, criminal justice, and education systems, along with support navigating hospital and other healthcare systems
CCBHCs have been proven successful in the communities they serve, meeting an unmet need to connect people with behavioral health services and filling the gaps in the healthcare system that extend outside the four walls of any clinic. With over four decades of positive community impact, FYI+ will continue delivering quality care and will build upon the strengths of multiple existing services to serve children, youth, adults, and ALL families.
Of course, our establishment as a CCBHC means we will be collaborating with trusted community partners to coordinate care for our participants. Our hope is to fortify existing relationships and develop new ones in order to ensure all individuals in our care receive timely treatment, have access to all the care they require, and are treated with dignity and respect no matter their age, where they live, or their financial status.
In the coming months, FYI+ will be announcing a collaboration with a local, established healthcare clinic. This will be another innovative approach to providing integrated healthcare in Las Cruces and Dona Ana County to continue our mission of promoting a safer and healthier community.
